VSSC is the lead Centre for development of satellite launch vehicles and associated technologies. The Centre pursues active research and development in a host of distinct technology domains like aeronautics, avionics, composites, etc with a view to achieve self-reliance in the high tech realm of launch vehicle technology. Apart from VSSC, ISRO Satellite Centre (lSAC) at Bangalore, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) at Sriharikota near Chennai, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Valiamala, Mahendagiri and Bangalore and Space Application Centre (SAC) at Ahmedabad are the other major ISRO Centres. VSSC has its origin in the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS). TERLS became operational on November 21, 1963 with the successful launching of a two-stage sounding rocket, ‘Nike-Apache’. After the death of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, on December 30, 1971, the whole complex at Thiruvananthapuram was renamed as “Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre”. Their Ph.D.thesis should be in the areas of atmospheric, space, and planetary sciences which are relevant to the fields of research being carried out at SPL. Only those candidates who have carried out their Ph.D. work outside SPL are eligible to apply. Pay and Allowances : The Research Associateship is initially for a period of ONE YEAR and is renewable annually for a total period of two years (three years in exceptional cases). There will be a review of the progress of the work before the renewal every year. The RA position carries an amount of Rs. 22,000/- for the first year, Rs. 23,000/- for the second year and Rs. 24,000/- for the third year. Candidates are also eligible for HRA as admissible to regular employees of VSSC.
