Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited (HESCOM) is a power distribution company in the state of Karnataka serving seven of its districts. It was formed in the year 2002 under the Companies Act. HESCOM has the sole responsibility for power distribution in Dharwad, Gadag, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Uttara Kannada, Haveri and Belgaum districts of Karnataka. HESCOM covers an area of 54513 Sq. Km. serving a population of over 140 lakhs. The total assets of the company are about INR 2622 Crores.The Government of Karnataka as part of reforms in power sector has unbundled the transmission and distribution activities in the state of Karnataka. As a result, the HESCOM Limited was incorporated on 30.04.2002 under the Companies Act, 1956 (No. 1 of 1956) and the company started operation w.e.f. 01.06.2002.Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is a registered company under the Companies Act, 1956 was incorporated on 28-7-1999 and is a company wholly owned by the Government of Karnataka with an authorised share capital of Rs. 1455 crores. KPTCL was formed on 1-8-1999 by carving out the Transmission and Distribution functions of the erstwhile Karnataka Electricity Board.
